What I love about this song is that the message is absolutely universal.  I was so honored to sing it at the Animal Rights Conference 2010 during the morning plenary featuring vegan Congressman Dennis Kucinich. What an opportunity!

There are three upcoming events I want to publicize. On Wednesday, September 29th, Tayst is having a VEGANstravaganza, which will be a five course dinner with wine pairings. Wow! I’ve had the privilege of tasting Jeremy Barlow’s vegan creations and I have very high expectations about this dinner. Anyone want to treat?

UPDATE:  Due to overwhelming response and the event selling out with a HUGE waiting list (yay!!!), Tayst has added a second vegan dinner on October 16th at 6:30.  Call for reservations now!

I’m also very excited to announce a screening of the movie Forks Over Knives at The Belcourt on October 6th at 7:00.  I am SO excited to finally see this film.  I have been hearing about it for months and I am such a huge fan of the doctors featured.  I’m sure it’s going to be great.  Don’t miss this opportunity!

Farm Sanctuary is an organization that is near and dear to my heart. President and co-founder Gene Baur is an incredible man and he and the sanctuary have done so much to care for animals and raise awareness about factory farming, etc.  There is a Walk for Farm Animals that benefits Farm Sanctuary in Nashville on October 3rd.  You can register to participate here.

Vegan Panna Cotta at Tayst

Whale Wars

During the 2007-2008 campaign, Animal Planet captured the intensity of Sea Shepherd’s mission and the trials and tribulations of the crew in a new seven-part, hour-long weekly series WHALE WARS, premiering Friday, November 7th at 9 PM. The series draws attention to this global conservation issue that has caused friction between several nations over the practice of whaling in oceanic territories. Highlighting both the controversial whaling trade and the tactics that Sea Shepherd and its staff and volunteers use to attempt to cripple it, the series documents the group’s three-month sojourn across the icy Antarctic waters at the far end of the globe. Each week on WHALE WARS, Animal Planet will take viewers on a powerful and adrenaline-fueled adventure to spotlight how the group takes action against these whaling operations.

We are also losing my favorite Nashville wine store, YN.  They’re the ones who had the vegan wine section for a while, so naturally I was a loyal customer.  It also helps that it was right next to Whole Body, which made it extra convenient for me.  Here’s the email that was sent out yesterday:

We are closing (yn) wine shop after Saturday, November 1st. We thank each of you for your dedication and loyalty to us, our concept that less, but better, is best.  To be named “best wine shop” by Carrington Fox and The Nashville Scene is testimony to selling truth and quality. I will send you more details on Monday, but for now, we hope to see you at least one more time at this location (the Hill Center).

Best of luck to Ed, Harlan, Tristan and the rest of the crew.  We hope to see you again soon!

By the way, I stopped by YN yesterday and bought six bottles at 25% off.  That’s my silver lining, although I really am heartbroken to see the store go away.

At least Trader Joe’s is opening soon, which is a very, very good thing.  There were rumors about them opening up a separate wine store, but apparently they were just rumors.

And of course, we still have the Wine Shoppe at Green Hills.
