Posted on 26. Aug, 2008 by Yvonne Smith in Blog
My last blog entry was about vegan bodybuilder Robert Cheeke and featured a highlight reel from AR2008. Well, the fabulous Hilary Wright just posted the entire interview with Robert and me. Thanks, Hilary!

When I travel not every place I find myself in has a vegan restaurant, a vegetarian restaurant, or even a veg*n friendly restaurant.
What are some of the things you do when you find yourself traveling in those places?

I plan ahead! I always consult sites like HappyCow.net before I take a trip and it’s pretty easy to find fresh fruits and veggies at the grocery store. Ingredient labels are your friends! Most cities will have at least one health food store. I also bring some vegan bars, nuts and other snacks with me in my luggage. If you can’t find a veg*n restaurant, you can usually find an Asian, Mexican or American place that can make something veg-friendly, even if it’s just steamed veggies and rice. I have sometimes created meals from side-dishes and just made sure nothing was cooked with butter, animal broth, etc. Also, any true chef worth his or her salt can surely create something vegan for you. Most people don’t realize that you can ask for this, but I have had some wonderful meals that didn’t appear on the menu. Many chefs welcome the challenge and the opportunity to create something new and different.
